I’m very glad to announce that my thesis has been nominated for the IBM Belgium / FRS-FNRS Computer Science Award. This award is granted yearly to the best PhD thesis in Computer Science and Applications. The thesis has now been adapted in a book, available here.

LiblineaR: R package version 1.80-4 available!

26 04 2011

LiblineaR, the R wrapper to liblinear, a fast C/C++ library for linear models estimation dedicated for very high dimensional data, has been updated.

The new version (1.80-4) is working on more platforms than previously (now works for Windows and Mac OS X, in addition to the linux environment).

It has two updated solvers and a new optimization problem is available (Dual version of L2-regularised Logistic Regression).

More than predicted labels, decision values are now also available (useful for ROC curves for example).

Find the package here .

DNAlytics: A UCL Spin-Off Project

15 11 2010

On the 1st of October, the Spin-Off project DNAlytics started. This project will study the possibility of technology transfer from the research lab of Prof. Pierre Dupont (UCL) to a private company. The main research topic of Prof. Dupont’s team for the last 4 years has been automated diagnostics based on genomic data, and gene profiling. This project is funded by a First-Spin-Off funding from the Walloon Region (FSO project GENEPRO). Thibault Helleputte will manage this project.

See http://www.dnalytics.com for more information.

Thesis printed!

The 20 copies of my PhD Thesis are now printed, and available.

PhD Public Defense

24 08 2010

My PhD thesis public defense is planned on 7 September 2010.

My thesis title is:

“Inductive Biases for Stable Feature Selection in High Dimensional Spaces: Applications to Gene Profiling and Diagnosis from DNA Microarrays”

The defense will take place on Tuesday 7 September at 4pm in the Institute of Life Sciences (ISV) seminar room (ISV). Directions can be found here: http://www.uclouvain.be/en-17429.html (see “ISV Carnoy” on the “Local Map”). The defense will start with a talk about my thesis and its results. The talk will be followed by a series of questions from the jury, then from the audience (that is you!). It will be my pleasure to try to answer them. After that, I invite you to a drink taking place around 6pm in the room next-door to the seminar room, in order to properly celebrate the event.
